"WHO LOOKS OUTSIDE, DREAMS, WHO LOOKS INSIDE, AWAKES"   CARL JUNG

I am an accredited psychotherapist, supervisor, and chartered clinical psychologist, with 31 years of experience working with clients in various settings.

Since 2017, I have had my individual psychotherapy practice for adults based in the picturesque village of Enniskerry, North Wicklow

About Darina

Every event we host is designed with intention, from the atmosphere we create to the way each session flows.

I am an accredited psychotherapist and supervisor with the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP).  I am also a chartered clinical psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).  I worked with clients in adult mental health in the HSE for 14 years before opening my private practice in 2011.

My training is integrative, which means I draw on several therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, attachment-informed, Gestalt, humanistic, and Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT) therapies.  I also use interpersonal neurobiology (an interdisciplinary view of life experience that draws on over a dozen branches of science to create a framework for understanding our subjective and interpersonal lives) and mindfulness approaches in my work.

I strongly believe in the potential in all of us, whatever our histories, for healthy development and growth when we have the right conditions to support that growth.  The experience of a supportive and respectfully challenging therapeutic relationship in individual psychotherapy can help connect us with the ‘wise self’ within.

I am consistently enlightened and humbled in working with people in this field.

How does psychotherapy work?

Our early relationships and experiences strongly shape how we go on to deal with our later life and relationships so  in understanding our history we are enabled to work through difficulties in our present lives.

Identifying patterns in behaviour and relationships and adapting them, or adopting new approaches in order to acquire a deeper contentment in life.

By facilitating a deeper understanding of emotions and other mental processes, to help gain a greater insight into feelings and thought patterns, which can result in making better life choices.

Increasing awareness of how unconscious motivations can influence how we think, feel, and act can help deal with mental or emotional distress and promote self-reflection, insight, and emotional growth.

What to expect in your first session

The initial consultation will explore what brought you to therapy, examining how your past impacts your current life, and how it has led you to the place you find yourself. It will involve telling your story to facilitate us getting to know each other.
